S2E1 Jagged Little Pill (25 Years Later)

It’s hard to believe that Alansis Morissette’s landmark album ‘Jagged Little Pill’ is 25! What can you say about this record that hasn’t been said already?

25 years on, the album still holds up, and still sounds fresh, edgy, and modern. I remember how it literally took the world by surprise, and how many of us weren’t ready to listen to Alanis’ message back then. I count myself in that group. I hated this album when it first came out. It has nothing to do with the album, and everything with me not ‘being ready’ to listen to it. I really believe that ‘Jagged Little Pill’ was years ahead of its time.

Now, of course, this is one of my all-time favourite records, and I listen to it on a regular basis. If you’ve never listened to the entire album, I strongly encourage you to do so. It is nothing short of brilliant.

As I mention in this episode of The Stueytunes Show, at least 33 million (and probably closer to 40 million) copies have been sold. It spent over 220 weeks in the top 200 chart. Those are crazy numbers, and it has also won multiple Junos and Grammy Awards, and is on every list of best rock and roll albums of all time.

I think in another 25 years, we will still be remembering and talking about this album. What a game-changer Alanis’ career, and for all of the women artists who followed her!
